Dr Tony Naughton is the clinical chief officer at NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group. He is also a practising GP at The Thornton Practice.

Our staff here at NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group regularly hold fundraising events and initiatives to benefit a range of charities both locally and nationally.

I am delighted to announce that since the launch of this organisation just four years ago, we have managed to raise £2,658.05 for a variety of causes.

This is a real testament to the generosity and team spirit of the people who work at the CCG, digging deep to support these worthwhile causes.

For the past two years, following a vote among staff, mental health charity Lancashire Mind has been the chosen charity to benefit from our annual fundraising week which includes a Great CCG Bake Off event and a dress down day, as well as being the beneficiary of profits from the office ‘tuck shop’.

So far over the past two years we have raised £1,060.04 for Mind, which is a huge achievement for around 50 CCG staff.

Mind is such an important charity as more and more people are now beginning to realise the importance of mental health. People are talking about it more openly and that has to be a good thing.

I would encourage people to carry on talking about mental health and erase the stigma that has for so long haunted this issue.

Our fundraising will continue for Mind over the next few months until we choose a new charity for 2017/18.

In addition, the CCG continues to support causes such as Comic Relief and Sport Relief, Children in Need, Macmillan Cancer Support and Genetic Disorders UK through the ‘Jeans 4 Genes’ campaign.

I am very proud of the work the team does at Fylde and Wyre CCG to help improve the health and wellbeing of local people and the benevolence they have shown and willingness to support charitable causes over the years only strengthens this. Long may it continue.
