Dr Tony Naughton has been the clinical chief officer of NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) since it was launched in 2014. Since then it has become one of the most successful CCGs in the country.

Under Tony’s direction, the CCG has been involved in a series of national pilots, pioneering change in a number of areas. These include:

  • Fylde Coast Vanguard – furthering the development of New Models of Care.
  • Healthy New Towns – one of just 10 housing developments in the country chosen to focus on healthy living.
  • Technology Test Bed – working in partnership with Lancaster University and tech company Philips to develop new technology to improve health and wellbeing for people with long-term conditions.

The CCG was also highly commended in the 2016 Health Service Journal ‘CCG of the Year’ award and rated ‘outstanding’ by NHS England following its annual assurance assessment.

Tony qualified in 1989 and has been a GP at The Thornton Practice, Thornton-Cleveleys, since 1995. In 2002 he became senior partner. He has a keen interest in medical education, trains GPs, junior doctors and medical students, and has also acted as a mentor to nurse practitioners, nurse prescribers and counsellors. Dr Naughton has served on the British Medical Association’s national executive and national negotiating committees.

He currently chairs the Fylde Coast Clinical Senate as well as the Lancashire Medicines Management Group and is a member of the North of England Regional Medicines Optimisation Committee.
